Studying Artists Print Productions

Before planning my own print productions I felt it would be a fantastic idea, to study relevant print productions of artists in the same genre group as Jungle Doctors. I immediately noticed that none of the album covers were simple looking, they have all clearly been worked on in Photoshop. They do not have a normal sense about them, with aspects that make no sense but produce an interesting and eye catching cover. For example, Two Door Cinema Clubs cover exhibits a women's legs coming out of the ceiling of a house. The albums are also very colourful and eye catching which some artists to not tend to show. As Jungle Doctors genre is indie, the colour is understandable for that genre, for example if they were rock band, the obvious colours would be dark colours (black), this can be seen in the rock band, Fall Out Boy, album.

To start off in my own planning for the album artwork, I approached images I had taken at the location of our shoots (I felt by producing images at the shoot, I would benefit when making my print productions). It is a clear aspect that I have focused on the idea of the beach and boats as the main points for my print productions, this is because 'Boat song' is set at the beach and boats are relevant to the name of the song. I also feel that a relaxing subtle paradise vibe of album artwork, will attract the target audience and will look far from tacky and unprofessional. I do not plan on using these images as a final choice, but I felt developing and using primary images as inspiration would be more suitable. I plan to possibly have a photography shoot sometime in the next few weeks, as I am thinking of testing out different effects (panorama) and shot types. I prefer the sunset images, as the silhouette of the boats and clouds are very effective and give the dream like state, which is what we did try and portray in some of our editing of our music video.

  1. Well done for posting your research into album art plus your own shots taken on location.

You need to consider your audience demographic which I assume is 16-18 year old white independent minded British females who enjoy indie music. In order to capture the attention of this audience demographic I suggest your front cover is similar either in design or colour to the band's cover art simply because it stands out and would attract this age group. You could manipulate the colour in your own stills in order to achieve a similar brand style.

You could also take shots of the amusement arcade which is very colourful. You need to add captions to your second slide show.

It's great to see you getting into the research and planning of your print productions. You may also wish to post research The Norwich School of Artists (19 century), I sent you the links on an email.
