Once Anna and I knew that the location for our media production would be at the beach, we felt that it was a good idea to inspect other music videos which have the beach incorporated in them. We were studying mainly the shot types and how the directors have incorporated the beach in their video, I noticed that regarding the genre of music the shots are very different. I produced a powerpoint, with shots that particularly stood out to me in the music video.
Rizzle Kicks - Down With The Trumpets
Calvin Harris - Feel So Close
Only certain aspects of this music video stood out to me; mainly the character in his car, with the sunset behind him. Anna and I felt that a good shot would be for our character to be driving during the sunset with the beach in the background. I feel that this will be effective as his silhouette will stand out and make him the focus, as well as the sunset. I also felt that the landscape shot of the truck with the sunset in the background was effective. Anna and I have decided that having only one character with a story would be effective in our music video. So the last shot i have chosen would be effective as it could represent a persons isolation and loneliness.
Mumford and Sons - Lover Of The Light
There is a segment in Mumford and Sons music video, where the main character is on/near the beach. I feel that some of the shots, specifically the shots of the sunset, are very effective and eye catching for the audience. The long shots of the location with the characters silhouette in the distance are unique and intriguing, the shots are very beautiful and dream like, which is what Anna and I would like to incorporate into our music video - a sense of paradise.
Two Door Cinema Club - Sun
It seems that Two Door Cinema Club have produced the same idea as Anna and I; Sun = Beach. Boat = Beach. This music video is very consistent with its shots, the band are performing on beach huts. This gave Anna and I the idea to incorporate beach huts within our video, however we would like them to be far more colorful.
Jamie Woon - Shoulda
Jamie Woons' music video I felt was the most helpful and effective when thinking of ideas for different shots; throughout the video different concepts and locations of the beach were exhibited, each shot gave a different idea. The landscape shots particularly stood out to me, as the idea we have at the moment is for one character to be part of an isolated place, this is what is established in "shoulda". By placing one character in a landscape shot, it emphasises the desolation of the beach, and how alone the character is. The close ups of particular aspects of the beach (rocks, grass, sea) give the audience an idea of what the scenery is and puts them in the characters point of view. They also make lovely, beautiful shots. When planning our music video I will look back and study this video, as I believe it will help massively with ideas.
Duke Dumont - Need u (100%)
Regarding this music video there was only a certain section were the beach was involved, however I felt that the section was relevant and gave some good ideas. I like the idea of his silhouette against the sunset, and how as it progresses the shots become closer and closer. One idea I have for our video is for it to begin with the characters silhouette on the beach with the sun rising at the beginning of the video, and then the sun setting at the end. In the last shot I have chosen, I felt that it was effective as it closes in on the characters emotions, and brings the character and the audience more close.
Well done for posting this competent research and uploading slide shows of specific shots that suggest ideas for mise-en-scene and the narrative structure of your music video.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you are engaging with the planning and research....keep up the good work and particularly making progress with your shoot.
